Anna (Demko) Litke, 89, of Manchester, wife of 55 years to the late Norman H. Litke, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
She was born on June 27, 1924, in Manchester, daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Simonis) Demko, Anna attended local schools, was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1942, and had been a lifelong resident of Manchester. She began her career as a teller at the Savings Bank of Manchester and later worked for 25 years at Connecticut Bank & Trust until her retirement in the 1990s. Anna was a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Manchester and the Manchester Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening and attending her high school class reunions.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Thomas Paonessa of Boonton Township, N.J., and Nancy and Stephen Shaw of Tewksbury, Mass.; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marietta Litke of Lake Villa, Ill.; her two grandsons, Michael Litke, and his fiancé, Danielle, of Southington and Nick Paonessa, and his wife, Jessica, of San Diego, Calif. She also leaves her brother, George Demko, and his wife, Phyllis, of Greenwich; two nephews, three nieces, and 10 grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Anna was predeceased by her two sisters, Emma Demko and Elsie Cone.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 E. Center St., Manchester. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 11:30 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 40 Pitkin St., Manchester. Burial will be in East Cemetery, Manchester.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Historical Society or to the Manchester Scholarship Foundation.
