Anna (Mitchell) Williams

Anna (Mitchell) Williams, 95, of Ellington passed away peacefully at Woodlake at Tolland to be with our Lord Jesus on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012. Anna joins her beloved husband, Russell Lyman Williams.

Anna was born in Avon on Oct. 28, 1917, the daughter of the late Samson Charles and Catherine "Katie" (Wetrenko) Mitchell. Both parents were immigrants from the Ukraine and Russia and came to America through Ellis Island in the early 1900s. Anna was raised in Ellington, lived many years in Tolland, and then back on the family homestead in Ellington after her mother passed. She was a communicant of St. Bernard Church in Rockville for most of her 95 years. As a young girl, she worked very hard to help her mother and father make ends meet. She worked various jobs on the local potato and tobacco farms as well as in the local mills. Anna was not afraid of hard work and could make a great soup out of any vegetable you gave her. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving caregiver, and devoted wife. Anna spent many years caring for her ailing husband with such selflessness, love, and kindness. She loved to attend Mass, prayed daily, and would never miss her show with Mother Angelica. Her faith and love for God gave her spiritual strength and gratitude for all of her life's blessings.

She leaves her loving and devoted son, Norman Williams and his wife, Mary-Jane; her grandchildren, Jeremy, Lisa, and Dan, along with step-grandchildren, Debbie, Barry and Laurie; her brother, Joseph Mitchell and his wife, BettyMay; her nieces, Karen (and Ted) Kawalec and Nancy Mitchell; and her nephew, James (and Cora) Mitchell. Anna was predeceased by her brother, John Mitchell and his wife, Ann, and her stepson, Roger Williams and his wife, Dorothy.

Many thanks to those who cared for Anna during the time she spent at Woodlake at Tolland and to her loving roommate, Ester Phelps. God bless Father Rick for listening to his spiritual guidance by stopping in to pray for Ann right at the moment of her passing.

Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna's loving memory may be made to St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville, CT 06066; or to Woodlake at Tolland, 26 Shenipsit Lake Road, Tolland, CT 06084.
