Barbara (Fortin) MacVarish, 84, of Ellington, widow of Robert MacVarish, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012.
She was born June 26, 1928, in Manchester, the daughter of the late William and Jane (Murphy) Fortin. She retired from the Ellington Post Office in 1993 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Ellington Senior Center, and loved playing volleyball. She loved her cats, dogs, and feeding the birds.
She is survived by her children, James MacVarish and partner, Roxann Dwire, Sandra and Joseph Franklin of East Hampton, Robert and Donna MacVarish, Bonnie MacVarish and Roger Maynard, Joseph MacVarish, all of Ellington; 10 grandchildren, Valerie, Carrie, Deborah, Sean, Christopher, Zachery, Casey, Scot, Patrick, Ian; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, William Fortin of Vernon; and best friend, Mary Butler; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Sharon MacVarish.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct 6, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Ellington Center Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may join the family Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville.
