Carolyn English Wilson

Carolyn English Wilson, 83, of Suffield, beloved wife of the late Marion A. "Johnnie" Wilson, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Rockville General Hospital in Vernon.

Born on Feb. 17, 1930, in Sylva, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Dixie (Coward) English. She was raised in Hazelwood and Asheville, N.C., and was a resident of Wallingford for nearly 50 years. She made her home with her daughter in Melrose for a year and a half, and lived for the past five years at Suffield by the River assisted living in Suffield.

Carolyn graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School (now Asheville High School) in 1948. She and Johnnie were married in Asheville on Aug. 15, 1948, and celebrated their 50th anniversary shortly before his death. The Blue Ridge Mountains were dear to them, as were their families in and around Asheville, and they made many family trips from Connecticut "back home" to North Carolina. Carolyn was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother, and caregiver to her mother in Dixie's old age. A wonderful correspondent with family and friends, she was the keeper of news and the glue that held everyone together.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna W. and Albert S. Grant of Melrose; son Charles A. Wilson of Whitesboro, N.Y.; son, Larry P. Wilson of Wallingford; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey A. Wilson and Suzanna D. Watkins of Winston-Salem, N.C.; grandchildren, Nissa Grant Eisenberg and husband, William Eisenberg, Phoebe Grant, Alex Grant, Rachel Wilson, Sarah Wilson, Jeremy Marotti, Elizabeth Robinson, Brandon Wilson, Rebekah Wilson, Sam Wilson, and Joe Wilson; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Charles E. English Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Huntsville, Ala.; many treasured nieces and nephews; and two dear cousins, Dale Coward and wife, Bobbie, of Cashiers, N.C., and Jule Coward, also of Cashiers. She was predeceased by her sister, Anne Dockery; and brother-in-law, Raymond Dockery who was also a first cousin to Johnnie.

The family would like to acknowledge the caring support given to Carolyn by the staff of Suffield by the River in her last years.

Arrangements will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden.
