Deborah Knapp Adams, wife of Joseph A. Adams, passed away suddenly Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Woodlake at Tolland.
Deborah was born in Danbury, May 4, 1937, daughter of the late F. Richmond and Eleanor Merrill Knapp. Deborah grew up in West Mystic, attended Fitch High School, and graduated from Colby Junior College. After graduation, she worked at Travelers Insurance Co. She went on to have a 34-year career in banking at Hartford National Bank and retired from Shawmut National Bank as vice president. Debbie was on the board of governors of the Hartford Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, a member of the South Hartford Business & Professional Association, a charter member of the Hartford Chapter of Financial Women International, and a treasurer and board member of the Hartford Women's Network. After retirement, she went to work for the Connecticut Conference of UCC, in charge of planned giving. She was very active at Center Congregational Church, Manchester, as a deaconess, chairman of the board of education, and other positions on multiple boards and committees. She gave many hours to raising money for various Hartford-area causes.
Deborah was predeceased by her brother, Peter Merrill Knapp. Besides her husband, Joseph, she leaves her sister-in-law, Christa; niece, Merrill; nephews, Andreas (wife, Patricia), and Tristan; grand-nephews, Justin, Stewart, and Leander; grand-niece, Emily; cousins, Gail, Sue, and Fay; step-son, Allen (wife, Denisa); step-daughter, Courtney; step-grandchildren, Griffin and Haven; beloved extended family, and of course, Max the cat. Debbie loved her family and friends, and gave generously of her time and spirit.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 E. Center St., Manchester.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Center Congregational Church, 11 Center St., Manchester.
