Douglas R. States, 64, of Vernon and loving husband of 38 years to Beverly A. Katie (Judge) States, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 13, 1949, in Syracuse, N.Y., to the late Leon R. States and Mildred (Gurnee) States. He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church in Vernon and was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. He worked for the Ellington Public Schools System. He collected model classic cars and loved car shows and watching western movies. Douglas was known to be a quiet, sweet, and funny man.
Besides his best friend and loving wife, Beverly, he leaves behind two children, Sara Myska and her husband, Steve, of Vernon, and Jeffrey States of Vernon; his sister, Leone Yager; his grandchildren, Kevin and Jennifer; his sister-in-law, Nancy North and her husband, Dennis, of South Windham; and several nieces and nephews and many friends. He also will be missed by his family dog, Aliera.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 22, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Rockville.
