Edward P. Saling Jr.

Edward P. Saling Jr., 86, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Manchester, beloved husband of Anna "Midge" (Flynn) Saling, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in Florida.

Ed was born on April 6, 1927, in Hartford, son of the late Edward P. Saling Sr. and Marion (Starbuck) Saling. He graduated from Buckley High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Ed worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, starting as an engineer then was a group leader in Government Property Control for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a communicant of Community Baptist Church in Manchester and a member and former Worshipful Master of Friendship-Tuscan Lodge 145 A.F.&A.M. He was a longtime member of both the Elks Club 1893 and the Silk City Barbershop Chorus of Manchester.

In addition to his wife, Anna "Midge," he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Thomas Sweeney of East Hampton; a son, John Edward Saling of New Britain; and six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by a daughter, Holly Crawford, and her husband, Kye of Florida; his sister and brother-in-law, Dot and Dave Clarke of Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Kinsley Saling.

Calling hours will be at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic service to be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church, 585 E. Center St., Manchester. Burial with military honors will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Orthopedic Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396.
