Elizabeth Jane Kulas, "Libby" as she is fondly known, of Southwick, Mass., was gently placed into the arms of God on Sunday, following a two-year battle with cancer. Her final days were spent at home enjoying time with her family and friends.
Libby was born in Springfield, Mass., on Feb. 22,1999, and attended the Powder Mill Middle School in Southwick, as an 8th-grade student. Although Libby's life was short, she lived it fully and "in the moment", and always with that signature bright beautiful smile, loving eyes, and huge warm heart. With unshakable perseverance from such a gentle-spirited child, she lived her life with determination, strength, and courage; refusing to allow anything to hinder her mind, spirit, and soul.
Libby will be greatly missed and her life lovingly celebrated by her mother, Michelle Bertrand and cherished sister, Allison Kulas, both of Southwick; her father and stepmother, James and Wendy Kulas of South Windsor; grandparents, Sula Bertrand and the late Robert Bertrand; Frank and Barbara Kulas; and her beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and her treasured best friend, Jordyn, who never left her side. Libby also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Shelby Rose and Stella Mae, her cat, Jeeter, and three goldfish, Squirmy, Doug, and Fredrick.
The family is so grateful to and would like to thank the remarkable staff and volunteers of Baystate Children's Hospital, The Damour Cancer Center, Meadows Pediatrics, Baystate VNA Hospice, Griffin's Friends, and the Powder Mill Middle School, for the amazing care given to Libby and her family throughout her battle and beyond.
There will be a Funeral Home Service 8 p.m. Friday at the Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will precede the service from 4 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Allison Kulas Educational Fund, c/o United Bank, 95 Elm St., West Springfield, MA 01089.
