Ernest "Ernie" J. Douville Jr., 54, of Enfield, loving husband of 36 years to Carol (Whaples) Douville entered into God's glorious Kingdom on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at home with his loving family by his side.
Ernie was born March 25, 1959, in Hartford, the loving son of Lucille (Gosslin) Douville of Enfield and the late Ernest J. Douville Sr. Ernie proudly served as a military police officer
with the United States Army
and later with the Connecticut Air National Guard. Ernie was employed as a correctional officer with the Connecticut Department of Correction for over 19 years and also as a crisis intervention officer with the department. He was a member of the River of Life Christian Fellowship Church in Tolland and also served on its worship team and several other worship teams. Ernie's love for the youth led him to become a youth leader and the freshman football coach for Enfield High School in the late '90s. Ernie was a motorcycle enthusiast, but his true passions were his faith, family, football, and music. His greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife and high school sweetheart, he is also survived by his two beloved daughters, Shannon Whitbeck, and her husband, Tim, and Amanda Pelkey, and her husband, Craig, all of Enfield; his six grandchildren, Noah, Joy, Emma, and Cayla Whitbeck, and Elijah and Spencer Pelkey; two sisters, Debra Douville of New Jersey and Frannie Antonacci, and her husband, Gerald, of Somers; two brothers, Wayne and Thomas Froment of Somers. Ernie is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary Ellen and Randy Whaples of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.
A funeral service in celebration of Ernie's life will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the River of Life Christian Fellowship Church, 384 Merrow Road, Tolland. Please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Hazardville Cemetery in Enfield.
