Francis George Laraia "Fran," 89, of Manchester passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013.
He was born in East Hartford on Oct. 31, 1923. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mary Poirot Laraia; his brothers John, William, and Louis; and his sister Rose Laraia Risley. Fran leaves behind his two children, Linda Laraia Lantsberger and her husband, Mark, and David Laraia and his wife, Vera. He also leaves three grandchildren, Annie Paradis and her wife, Marcia Zutautas, Justin Laraia and his wife, Jenny, and Nicky Laraia Dumas and her husband, Keith; and many nieces and nephews. He was very proud to be the great-grandfather of Zoey and Jaxon Laraia.
Fran was a member of the Heat & Frost Insulators Local 33 and retired in 1985. He greatly enjoyed 28 years of retirement. He renovated the family cottage in Branford over a 10-year period and enjoyed every minute of it. He was always there to help family, friends, and neighbors with maintenance and repairs. Later in life, he spent vacations in Aruba with his son and daughter-in-law for several years, attended his granddaughter Nicky's wedding in Jamaica in 2007, and visited Bermuda with his daughter and son-in-law.
Fran's family would like to thank Beth and the staff on 2nd Floor West at Riverside Health Center in East Hartford and Becky and Lori at Masonic Partners Home Health and Hospice for their thoughtfulness and care since April.
Calling hours are from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
