Frederick J. "Fred" Riley

Frederick "Fred" J. Riley, of Enfield, passed away at the age of 76, on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, in East Windsor. He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Marilyn (Miller) Riley.

Frederick was born on May 26, 1936, in Enfield, the son of the late Frederick and Pauline (Butler) Riley, and was a lifelong resident. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army. An entrepreneur, Fred owned and operated his own businesses along with his wife, Marilyn, for the past 55 years, having started Riley Rug Cleaning, which existed for 20 years and then in 1981 the family established Riley Souvenir Shops working up until his illness. Fred's greatest enjoyment in life was spending time and traveling with Marilyn and his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Marilyn, he is also survived by his beloved children, Marybeth (Riley) Wallace, and her husband, David, of Westfield, Mass., Michael Riley, and his wife, Pamela, of Lake George, N.Y. and Steven Riley, and his wife, Debbie, of Somers; his eight grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Tony Riley, Katie Emons, Ilyssa Riley, Michael Riley, Josette Riley, Madison Wallace, Anthony Sarraino, and Jesse Sarraino; and two great-grandchildren; Permelia Riley and Tyler Emons. He is also survived by a brother, Thomas Riley, and his companion, Lillian Piepul, of Plant City, Fla.; a sister, Jean Sharon, and her husband, John, of Enfield; and a sister-in-law, Jean Dobosz of Somers; along with many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, with the funeral procession forming at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to All Saints Church, 25 School St., Somersville, for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in Somers Center Cemetery in Somers.
