Irene F. (Mikolowsky) Abraitis

Irene F. (Mikolowsky) Abraitis, 95, of Manchester, wife of the late Victor C. Abraitis, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011.

Irene was born in Hartford on April 10, 1916, to Alexander and Sophie (Werner) Mikolowsky. She was raised in East Granby and has been a Manchester resident since 1934. Irene owned and operated Billie's Beauty Shop at the former Depot Square in the north end of Manchester during the late 1930s and then had a career with the former Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. (now Cigna) for over 20 years. Over the years, she has enjoyed duckpin bowling, knitting, playing cards, and being a member of the former Manchester Women's Club and a longtime parishioner of St. James Church. Irene will be dearly missed by her family and her longtime and close friends.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her loving family, daughter, Susan Biuso, and her husband, Jack, of Manchester; and granddaughters, Alison Biuso of Singapore, and Emily Biuso, and her husband, Kevin McCarthy, of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 9:15 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester. Burial will follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Visiting hours are Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
