James F. Powers

James F. Powers, of Enfield, entered into eternal life at the age of 87, on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary (Pacheco) Powers.

Jim was born on Oct. 18, 1925, in Fall River, Mass., the son of the late Peter and Margaret Powers. Jim served in the Merchant Marines as a young man and later made his living as a truck driver and retired from Valeries Transportation many years ago. He was a member of Teamsters Local 671. Jim was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus third and fourth degrees and was also a Past Grand Knight and Former District Deputy.

Jim is survived by his beloved children, James P. Powers of San Diego, Calif., Rosemary Donovan and husband, Greg, of Vernon; Ralph Powers and wife, Virginia, of Enfield, and Maryjo Lessard and husband, Kevin, of Enfield. He leaves 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his sister, Honara Coyne of Fall River, Mass.; and a brother, John B. Powers of East Taunton, Mass. Jim was also predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Bass, and a grandson, Timothy Lessard.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield St., Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Chapel, 1365 Enfield St., followed by interment at the Hazardville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield St., Enfield; or the Felician Sisters, 1315 Enfield St., Enfield.
