James H. Markley Jr.

James H. Markley Jr., 69, of Vernon, loving husband of Dorothy (Lavigne) Markley, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, with his family at his side.

Born in Portland, Maine, the son of the late James and Mary (Fields) Markley, he was born and raised in the Munjoy Hill area of Portland and Hartford before moving to Vernon 30 years ago. He was a graduate of Portland High School, Portland, Maine, Class of 1962. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was presently employed at Sam's Club in Manchester. He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church in Rockville. Jim was a member of the Vernon American Legion, the Maple Grove Club, the TKB Club, and the Paul Mallia Post 161. He was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed reading.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepdaughters, Marie Gebhardt of Avon, Julie Gebhardt of Vernon, and Kelly Gebhardt of Vernon; three grandchildren, Brian Theriault, Paula Charette, and Danielle Daughtery; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Guimond of Portland, Maine; three brothers, Joseph Markley, and his wife, Peg, Thomas Markley, and his wife, Brenda, and Timothy Markley, and his wife, Sue, all of Portland, Maine, and many niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathy Rice.

His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
