Josephine T. "Jo" Janik, 91, of Enfield, widow of Leon P. Janik (1997), entered into eternal peace Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.
The daughter of the late Benedict and Mary (Halgas) Prokop, Jo was born and raised in Ludlow. She was a resident of the Enfield community since 1955, when she and her husband moved to Enfield and operated the family business, Janik Sausage Co., in which she participated for 40 years until 1990. Jo was a longtime member of St. Adalbert Church. She was an avid bowler and golfer. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening.
She is survived by a son, Lee Janik, and his wife, Mary, of Suffield; a daughter, Mary Lin Crowley, and her husband, Dennis, of Meredith, N.H.; five grandchildren, Ann and Michael Janik, Mathew Crowley and his wife, Jenny, Jessica Rowland and her husband, Joshua, and Sara Crowley; three great-grandchildren, Thomas and Charles Crowley, and Abraham Rowland; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Leon, she was predeceased by all her brothers and sisters.
Family and friends will gather at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, for a procession to St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal will follow at Hazardville Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels.
