Linsley H. Freemantle Jr., 85, of Enfield, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Evergreen Health Care Center.
Born on Oct. 4, 1928, in Stratford, he was the son of the late Linsley H. Sr. and Lillian (Hudson) Freemantle. A short while later, his family relocated and he lived most of his life in the Hazardville section of Enfield and in Somers. Linsley was employed as a mechanic with Gardner's Nursery in Rocky Hill for several years and previously with Hartman Tobacco and the former Woodward Tobacco farms in Enfield. Linsley was a U.S. Army
veteran and he proudly served his country during the Korean War
. In his free time, he enjoyed the comfort of his lakefront home on Hamilton Reservoir in Holland, Mass.
Linsley will be greatly missed by his niece, Lisa Young, and her husband, Eric, of Somers; his nephews, Todd Tisdale of Somers and David Freemantle of Enfield; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Beverly Freemantle; and his brother-in-law, Donald Tisdale. Besides his parents, Linsley was preceded in death by his sister, Bette Tisdale; and his brother, Charles Freemantle.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road. Burial will follow in Hazardville Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Evergreen for the extraordinary care they provided Linsley during his time there.
