Margaret D. "Peggy" (Kavanah) Calvert

Margaret "Peggy" D. (Kavanah) Calvert, 83, longtime resident of Manchester, widow of Philip A. Calvert, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Peggy was born in Port Chester, N.Y., on Sept. 13, 1931. She was raised in New York and came to Manchester in 1969. She was a volunteer at Manchester Memorial Hospital, and then became a hospital employee working in the social services department. Peggy was also a former employee at Manchester Radiologists and the former First National Supermarket in East Hartford. She was a parishioner and former Eucharistic minister of St. Bridget Church, but was most proud of having an open heart and open door for those in need.

She is survived by her daughter and son, Kim A. Calvert and Timothy P. Calvert, both of Manchester; her daughter-in-law, Judy C. Calvert of Vernon; six grandchildren, Philip Calvert, Sara C. Garofalo, Michael Calvert, Ryan Calvert, Casey Calvert, and Kelly Calvert; five great –grandchildren, Angela, Violet, Kelsey, Isabella, and Daisy; two brothers and a sister, Frank Kavanah in Florida, Matt Kavanah in Connecticut, and Francine Kavanah in New York, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, John Calvert and Michael Calvert.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, at 12:15 p.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St., Manchester. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery.

Visiting hours at the funeral home are Sunday, March 16, from 2 to 5 p.m.
