Marie L. Parker

Marie L. Parker, devoted wife, beloved mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.

The daughter of Lodia and Harold Friar, Marie was born on April 12, 1932, in Willimantic and lived most of her life in the Broad Brook section of East Windsor.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, George W. Parker Sr.; brother Gerard Fortier; and Sister M. Elodie Fortier. She is survived by her brother Ronald Fryer of Englewood, Florida; and her sister Gloria Jolie of Columbia. She is also survived by her daughter Paulette L. Hankard and husband, Patrick, of South Windsor; and her son George W. Parker Jr. of Andover. Marie was a loving grandmother to three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, grandson Shane Parker of New York; granddaughter Heather Venitosh and her husband, Alan, of South Windsor, and great-grandson Skye; granddaughter Holly Monroe and her husband, Josh, and great-grandchildren Maxwell, Finley, and Harper.

Marie was forever proud of being a teacher and taught in the Broad Brook Elementary School for 28 years before retiring to care for her ailing husband. Following her retirement Marie kept in close touch with her many friends from education, the East Windsor Lions club, and many others from East Windsor and Enfield.

Her family wishes to thank those many friends for their support during Marie's illness. The family also wishes to thank the staff at St. Francis Cancer Center, in particular Dr. Susan Rabinowe, and the staff of Touchpoints, East Windsor, and Masonicare.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, July 13, 2014, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine Church, 4 Windsorville Road, Broad Brook. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, East Hartford.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Masonicare Partners Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108.
