Marilyn (Chernaik) Meyer Morrison, 86, of Fairfield, formerly of South Windsor, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Jewish Home in Fairfield.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1928, in Springfield, daughter of the late David and Rose (Wish) Chernaik. Marilyn grew up in Springfield, and was a graduate of Commerce High School. She had a successful business career in customer service and telemarketing. She worked for Coronet Furniture Inc., YWCA, Northeastern Wallpaper Wholesaler, Martin Brower Co., and Century Subaru. She also worked as a special deputy sheriff at the Manchester Superior Court and Hartford Superior Court for over 10 years. Marilyn was active with local community and civic organizations as a part-time and volunteer public relations representative. She was a past member of the Manchester Rotary Club
, the South Windsor Rotary Club where she was the club's first female Rotarian, the South Windsor Democratic Town Committee, and a former member of the South Windsor Planning and Zoning Commission. She served as a Connecticut state delegate in two Connecticut state Senate campaigns. Marilyn was appointed as a Massachusetts state delegate to the Democratic presidential convention and ran for Massachusetts state representative and Springfield City Council. She enjoyed reading and took in several newspapers cover to cover each day. A kind, caring, and loving mother, sister, and friend, she will be greatly missed.
She leaves her sons, Jason Meyer of Paris, France, and Aaron Meyer of Bridgeport; and her sister, Honey Herzenberg of Florida. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Meyer; and husbands, Leonard S. Meyer and Henry Morrison.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Jewish Home, 175 Jefferson St., Fairfield, CT 06825. Burial will be private at the request of her family.
