Maurice "Moe" Lavallee, 88, of Windsor, husband of the late Ann Blakeney Lavallee, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Manchester Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family after battling cancer.
He was born in Old Town, Maine, on May 5, 1924, son of the late Francois Xavier and Caroline (Caron) Lavallee. Moe served our country during World War II
with the U.S. Navy
. A resident of Windsor for over 35 years, he retired from Emhart Glass Co, after 22 years of service. He was an accomplished jazz pianist who enjoyed playing with his jazz musician friends, especially the late Dave McKenna. He was an avid sports fan and loved his Red Sox, Hartford Hawks women's basketball team, and the UConn men's and women's Huskies. Moe loved all the baseball and soccer games his grandsons played in high school, where he made so many good friends over the years. He also enjoyed playing on the Trout Brook softball team with his friends.
He leaves his stepchildren, Kathleen Plunge, and her husband, Michael, of Windsor, Deborah Fournier, and her husband, Michael, of Rocky Hill, Margaret Dillon, and her husband, Thomas, of Windsor, Stephen Thurston, and his wife, Lynn, of Wethersfield, and Michael Thurston of Essex Junction, Vt.; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Jeffrey, and Edward Plunge, Thomas and Jennifer Dillon, his best buddy, Jason Thurston, Lisa and Erika Thurston; as well as five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A private burial will take place in the Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Moe asked for a celebration of life gathering for all of his friends. His family will announce when and where in the very near future.
