Monica V. (Mitchell) Daley

Monica V. (Mitchell) Daley, 97, of Vernon, wife of the late Barney W. Daley Jr., entered into eternal peace on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Fox Hill Center.

Born on Oct. 4, 1915, in Windsor, Monica was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Pearl (Minalga) Mitchell. She grew up and lived in Windsor before moving to South Windsor, where she lived for over 50 years before moving to Vernon 20 years ago. Monica was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved her family and her home. She was a wonderful cook, always having something delicious cooking on her stove. She also enjoyed working outdoors in her yard and garden. Monica worked at Pioneer Parachute and the Underwood Typewriter Co.

Monica is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. Daley Gibbons and her husband, Kenneth, of Vernon; her son Thomas J. Daley of Vernon; seven grandchildren, David Daley and his wife, Velvet, Karen Smith and her husband, Scott, all of Manchester, Christine Schiavetti of Stafford Springs, Susan Trotter and her husband, Jeffrey, Sheryl-Ann Paquette and her husband, Robert, and Lori Ann Dias, all of Ellington, Bridget Ann Daley Tallis and her husband, Kirk of Wixom, Mich.; 14 great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Taylor, and Morgan Trotter, John and Joseph Daley, Robert, Zachary, and Tiffany Paquette, Jennifer and Daniel Smith, Amy and Stacey Dias, and Marissa and Michael Schiavetti; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Daley of Manchester; a sister-in-law, Josephine McGee of Barre, Mass., and a host of nieces and nephews, especially remembered are, Gayle Graham of Clinton and Joan Shaia of West Hartford, who continually visited Monica and shared her holidays and birthdays. In addition to her parents and her husband, Monica was predeceased by her son, Bernard C. Daley, and her sisters, Antoinette Octtorovich and Frances Jamaitis. Also remembered is her late best friend, Mary Katkaveck.

Monica's family would like to thank all of the staff at Fox Hill for the wonderful care that they gave to her.

Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.

Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, East Hartford.
