Ralph C. Anderson

Ralph C. Anderson, 92, of Manchester, husband of the late Eleanor (O'Brien) Anderson, passed away on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at a local convalescent home.

Ralph was born on April 6, 1921, in Woodland, Maine, son of the late Carl and Martha (Nelson) Anderson and he had been a resident of Manchester since 1950. He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Ralph was a graduate of Boston University, Class of 1948, having earned his degree in aeronautical engineering. Prior to his retirement in 1980, Ralph was an engineering manager for over 31 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Milton, Vt., on Lake Champlain, which he had owned for over 50 years. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Bridget Church in Manchester. Ralph loved and watched UConn women's basketball and the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Michael Kelly of Gansevoort, N.Y.; his two sons, Wayne Anderson, and his wife, Lori, of Niantic and Mark Anderson and Christine Ruth of Broad Brook; his two sisters, Evangeline Jernstrom of Eastham, Mass., and Doris Brown of Brewer, Maine; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Ralph's family would like to extended special thanks to Crestfield Rehabilitation especially the Wing 3 staff for the excellent care they provided Ralph over the past few years. They were his angels.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at 11:15 a.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St. Manchester. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.

Calling hours will be on Monday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
