Raymond Albert Contois

Raymond Albert Contois, 89, of South Windsor, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Suffield House surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 6, 1925, in Bristol, he was a son to the late Francis and Yvonne (Pelletier) Contois. He was a veteran serving our country proudly with the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life, Beverly H. (Adams), on Aug. 3, 1963, and together resided in Hartford until 1977 when the family settled in South Windsor. They shared 47 years of marriage until Beverly's passing on Aug. 17, 2010. Raymond was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was actively involved in church activities. He was a member of the Army & Navy Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and assisted in a variety of functions at the South Windsor Senior Center. In Palm Coast, Fla., where he and Beverly owned a winter home, he was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and Color Corp, and the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Mens Club. He also enjoyed bowling in the Sand Fleas Bowling League, golfing, fishing and spending time with his loving family.

He is survived by his son, Rick Contois, and his wife, Luann, of Broad Brook; daughters, Michele Tardif, and her husband, Marco, of East Windsor, Nancy Piscottano, and her husband, Tony, of Old Saybrook, RaeAnn Corso, and her husband, Charles, of Hebron, and Karen Fortunato, and her husband, Vincent, of Kensington; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Beverly.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 10 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial, to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Windsor. Interment with military honors will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.
