Ricky Alan Sawyer

Ricky Alan Sawyer, 54, of Margate Fla., formerly of Manchester, beloved son of Betty Jean (Amell) Sawyer MacNeil of Port Orange, Fla., and Salem, and the late Hardy A. Sawyer, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at home.

Rick was born in Willimantic on Oct. 16, 1958. He attended Manchester schools and was a graduate of East Catholic High School, Class of 1978. Prior to moving to Florida in 1998, Rick was co-owner and operator of the former R&N Medical & Safety Supply Company in Manchester. He was a former Boy Scout in Manchester and was a recipient of the Medal of Merit award when he was 11 years old. Rick was an avid fisherman, enjoyed spending time on his boat, and was an avid football fan. He was kind and thoughtful and was truly concerned with the safety and well-being of others. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his mother, Betty Jean MacNeil and her husband, John F. MacNeil Sr., of Port Orange, Fla.; Rick is survived by his daughter, Rachel Ann Sawyer of Weston, Fla.; his brother, Robert Sawyer of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; his aunt, Phyllis Sawyer of New Hampshire; two uncles, Roger Amell and his wife, Laura, of Arizona and Johnny Sawyer of Massachusetts; and several cousins. Other survivors include John F. MacNeil Jr. of New York City and Marcia (MacNeil) Nielsen and her husband, Tom, of Virginia. In addition to his father, Rick was predeceased by his son, Glenn Alan Sawyer.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester from 3 to 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Monday, Sept. 16, beginning at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
