Robert W. Howe Sr.

Robert W. Howe Sr., 86, of Talcottville, formerly of Manchester, beloved husband of 64 years to Charlotte (Dowd) Howe, passed away peacefully on Thursday, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 15, 1926, in Manchester, N. H., the son of the late Cecil and Gladys (Goodwin) Howe, Bob was a proud member of this country's greatest generation. Bob was a veteran of WW II serving his country in the U.S. Army, South Pacific Campaign. He began his professional career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as part of the Fire Brigade before becoming Fire Chief at Hamilton Standard. While there he made great strides in the areas of Industrial Fire Safety and Hazardous Materials Response, until his retirement in 1985. He lived to proudly see his son, son-in-law, and his three grandsons follow in his footsteps as professional firefighters. Bob was also a former volunteer at the Eighth Utilities District Fire Dept. in Manchester and was a member of the Connecticut Fire & Police Chiefs Associations. He was a parishioner of St. Bridget Church in Manchester.

In addition to his wife, Charlotte, he is survived by his three children, Robert W. Howe Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Tolland, Cheryl Eremita and her husband, Michael, of Bolton, and Donna Thompson of Talcottville; seven loving grandchildren, Jennifer Frank and her husband, Neal, Kendra Allen and her husband, David, Robert W. Howe III and his wife Laura, Alyssa Howe, Michael Eremita and his wife, Sara, Aimee Eremita, and Christopher Thompson and his wife, Jocelyn. Bob, Dad, Poppa, Honey, will forever be lovingly remembered in the smiles of his 11 precious great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Irene Whitehurst and Dorothy Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
