Roger R. Rivest

Roger R. Rivest, 72, of Somersville, passed away on Oct. 15, 2012.

He was born on July 11, 1940, in Chicopee, Mass. He was the only son of the late Clarence and Dora (Bienvenue) Rivest. Roger worked as a master carpenter and artist for most of his life. He was also valued for his knowledge as a naturalist and a restorer of furniture and old cars. For over 20 years, he was the unofficial sentinel and caretaker of Maple Street, where he lived, particularly the historic pond area. A quiet man, his opinion was sought on a variety of topics and his presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He leaves his son, Jeffrey Rivest, and his wife, Tara, of East Longmeadow, Mass.; his daughter, Christine Witschi, and her husband, Warren, of Munson, Mass.; his sister, Vivian Pigeon of McLean, Va.; and his three beloved grandchildren, Christopher McCray, Ryan Rivest, and Brendan Rivest.

Calling hours will be held today, Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St., Chicopee.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at 9 a.m. at the Grise Funeral Home followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church, 104 Springfield St., Chicopee, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
