John Joseph Malerba, 90, the husband of Irene (Cardone) Malerba, to whom he was married for 64 years, died on Sunday Nov. 25, 2012, at Vernon Manor.
John was born and raised in Norwich, the son of the late Michael and Mary (Ditomaso) Malerba, and had graduated from Norwich Free Academy with honors. He had lived in Manchester for many years where he had been the owner and operator of three barber shops located on Hartford Road and had enjoyed his retirement since 1982. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
. John enjoyed being a member of local bowling leagues, was a member of the Manchester Pistol Club, and was an avid golfer.
Besides his wife, Irene; he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Vic Berdnick of Stafford Springs; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Dorothy Malerba of Manchester; his grandchildren, Christopher Ruggiero and his wife, Joanne, and Steven Dante; and his great-granddaughter, Emily. He is also survived by his sister, Fran Lupacchino of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Hindle, Rita Gesmundo, Ann Wieland, and Claire Foster.
John's family would like to offer a special note of thanks to the staff at Vernon Manor for the wonderful care they provided.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
