Barbara Phelps Obituary
Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Max and Louella (Blanchard) Wanant, she grew up and lived in South Windsor before moving to Tolland over 60 years ago. Prior to her retirement, Barbara was employed as a bookkeeper for Standard Welding in East Hartford for 40 years. After her retirement, she taught at the Tolland Green Learning Center for 21 years. Barbara was a longtime dedicated member of the United Congregational Church of Tolland, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was an avid hockey fan and longtime season ticket holder of professional hockey in Hartford, beginning with the New England Whalers and continuing through to the Hartford Wolf Pack. She was a member of the Hartford Wolf Pack Booster Club, and a 27-year member of the East Windsor Trolley Museum. Barbara enjoyed making ceramics with her daughter and going to Misquamicut with her family every year. She enjoyed walking the beach and looking at the ocean.
She is survived by her son, Mark Phelps and his wife, Judy, of Shapleigh, Maine; four grandchildren, Roger Pierson IV, Robert Pierson, and Mark and Matt Phelps; five great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Wally Pierson of Mississippi. She was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Pierson.
Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the United Congregational Church of Tolland, 45 Tolland Green, Tolland. Burial will be private.
Memorial donations in Barbara's memory may be made to the United Congregational Church of Tolland, P.O. Box 160, Tolland, CT 06084.

Barbara will be missed. She always had a smile and was a wonderful woman. She was a lot of help during my short time at the Learning Center. I will always remember how much she spoke with love in her voice of Roger. Heaven has a new angel now.
