Bertha Farney Obituary

Bertha (Kupferschmid) Farney, 103, of Derby, Vt., and formerly of Ellington, wife of the late Gerald S. Farney, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, in Derby, Vt.

She was born on July 22, 1910, in Ellington, the daughter of Ernest and Louise (Luginbuhl) Kupferschmid. She grew up and lived in Ellington for most of her life before moving to Derby, Vt. eight years ago to be closer to her children. Bertha was a secretary at the Ellington Agway for many years. She attended the Apostolic Christian Church in Ellington.

She is survived by her two children, Roberta Pheiffer of Derby Line, Vt., and Mike Farney and his wife, Lisa, of Newport Center, Vt.; four grandchildren, Adam Pheiffer and his wife, Angela Gale, of Winooski, Vt., John Pheiffer of Troy, Vt., and Matt and Ben Farney of Troy, Vt.; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Pheiffer, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest, Julius, and Elmer Kupferschmid; and three sisters, Alice "Sally" Reed, Ernestine "Teeny" Aberle, and Emily Broucek.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 29, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, 34 Middle Butcher Road, Ellington. Burial will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends at the Apostolic Christian Church on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Craftsbury Community Care Center, 1784 East Craftsbury Road, Craftsbury, VT 05826.
