I remember Eldred fondly, from the old Windsong Days. I still have a White Stag stretch mock turleneck he gave me, for skiing, when I was in the ninth grade, more than forty years ago. I can still feel his brush cut hair. Karen and I used to sneak up on him while he was sunbathing, and rub our hands across it. He would pretend to be asleep, then jump up and chase us up all over the yard. He was a young man then, only a few years out of college.

One time we went up to Mt. Snow, where he was a Ski Patrol member. We went looking for him in the bar of the lounge. Paul Newman was there. When another ski patrol member pointed him out, thinking we were teenage groupies, we said, "No, we're looking for Eldred Erickson."

So many years have passed. I wish I'd been at Sciricas a few years ago when he visited
