Frederick Miclon Obituary

Frederick "Fred" R. Miclon Sr., 91, of Windsor Locks, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital.

Fred was born March 23, 1922, in Plymouth, N.H., the son of the late Orrin W. and Hattie (Derosia) Miclon. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Fred attended technical training at Sheppard Field, Texas, in 1942, becoming certified as a B-17 and B-29 aircraft mechanic and also graduated from the Boeing Aircraft School in Seattle, Wash., for the B-17. While serving his country he worked on the Enola Gay B-29 as part of his many assignments. After being honorably discharged, he worked for Douglas Aircraft as well as Eastern Airlines at La Guardia and Kennedy Airports in New York. Once he relocated to Connecticut in 1956, he was employed by Pratt & Whitney, Kaman Aerospace, and Hamilton Standard. He retired in 1989 as the first building inspector for the town of Windsor Locks after 28 years. Fred was a faithful communicant of St. Mary Church and a member of the American Legion Gensi-Viola Post 36 in Windsor Locks. He was an avid woodworker, a handyman, and jack of all trades, and created magnificent stained glass artwork.

Fred was predeceased in 1973 by his loving wife of over 25 years and mother to their children, Cora Rose (Apisso) Miclon. He is survived by his three children, Susan Bushnik, and her husband, Paul, of Windsor Locks, Frederick Jr., and his wife, Bernadette, of Enfield, and Lori Lapointe, and her husband, Mark, of East Windsor; grandchildren, Steven Bushnik, and his wife, Leah, Jennifer Bushnik, Katrina Murphy, and her husband, Jared, Kurtis Lapointe, Anthony, Jessica and Emily Miclon; great-grandchildren, Andy, Alex, Abby, and Noah.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks.

A funeral procession will gather at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at noon at St. Mary Church. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial donations in memory of Fred can be made to St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
