George Stephen Smith

George Stephen Smith, 86, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Jean (Latvis) Smith, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 3, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Kevin and Linda Smith of Easthampton, Mass., Karen and David Howell of Carthage, N.C., Brian and Beth Smith of Ellington, Laura and Scott Gayton of Ellington, and Michael and Laura Smith of West Hartford. He also leaves his brother and sister-in-law, David and Kaiko Smith of Escondido, Calif.; his grandchildren, Allison Smith, Erin Bailey, Jeremy Smith, Jordan Rickard, Melody Smith, Alex Smith, Elena, Renee, and Jonathan Gayton, and Owen Smith; his great-grandchildren, Miles and Ella Bailey; his stepchildren, Robyn and Ross Luginbuhl, and Robert and Kristen Latvis; and step-grandchildren, Sarah and Hayden Luginbuhl, and Jordan, Cole, and Jenna Latvis. He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy, Regina, and Eileen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at St. Luke Church, 141 Maple St., Ellington, with burial following in Ellington Center Cemetery.
