Giacomo Sergio "Jack" Tedone

Giacomo "Jack" Sergio Tedone, 89, of South Windsor, beloved husband for 59 years of Cecelia Ann (Barry) Tedone, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, surrounded by his family at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Hartford on July 29, 1924, son of the late Costintino and Dominica (Rossi) Tedone, he was raised in the Front Street section of Hartford and had lived in East Hartford and Manchester before moving to South Windsor 49 years ago. After graduating from high school, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Megrez in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during World War II. After his honorable discharge as a radioman first class, he returned to Hartford and enrolled in classes at the Hartford Art School. After graduation, Jack took a position at the Hartford Times as a commercial artist creating ads for many of the businesses throughout the Hartford area. After the Hartford Times closed, Jack continued his career at the Journal Inquirer in Manchester, where he stayed until his retirement in 1993. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening around his home. He was well-known for his green thumb and for the fruits and vegetables that he grew and would share with his family and friends. Proud of his Italian heritage, Jack enjoyed eating traditional Italian meals with his family, caring for the fig trees in his yard that were brought over from Italy, and spending time with his friends in the Luna Club in Hartford. Most of all, he will be remembered as a hard working, soft-spoken family man who enjoyed being with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor, where he served as an usher for many years.

Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, James Tedone, and his wife, Linda, of Belchertown, Mass., Barry Tedone, and his wife, Tammy, of Tolland, Richard Tedone, and his wife, Jean, of Tolland, and Patrick Tedone, and his wife, Tami, of South Windsor; a brother, Jerome Tedone of Windsor Locks; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Costintino Tedone; a sister, Mary Kenney; and a granddaughter, Shannon Tedone.

Family and friends may gather on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at 9:15 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Windsor. Burial will be private.

His family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, South Windsor.

Jack's family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067; or to the Visiting Nurses and Health Services of Connecticut, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.
