Glynn Crapo Obituary

Glynn A. (a.k.a. Glenn Miller) Crapo, Jr. 92, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of Celia M. (Benjamin) Crapo for 66 years, entered into the heavenly kingdom on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Chestnut Point in East Windsor.

Glynn was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Newfane, Vt., the son of the late Glynn and Frances (Averill) Crapo Sr. He lived in several Vermont towns before moving to Windsor Locks, where he had lived for over 60 years and had been an active member at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. He proudly served as an airplane mechanic and instructor in the U.S. Army during World War II. Glynn was retired after 36 years from Pratt & Whitney, where he had worked at the service school in Wethersfield. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council 26 in Windsor Locks. Glynn was a private pilot and enjoyed flying his Cessna. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. His love of baseball also led him to be a former manager for the Windsor Locks Little League baseball team. He was musically talented, as he loved to play the harmonica and would also attend the summer band concerts and kindly share his gift of dancing with any willing lady to take his hand. Glynn was an all-around handyman and was very giving of his time. He was also a direct descendant of William White who was a passenger on the Mayflower. Glynn was a well-versed storyteller and often enchanted friends with epic tales of his travels in Vermont and surrounding territories.

In addition to his wife, Celia, he is also survived by his two children, Eric P. Crapo and Charlotte A. Plummer and her husband, David, all of Windsor Locks; four grandchildren, Heather Hubertz, Heidi Rubin and her husband, Rob, Matthew Benjamin, and Zachary Plummer; five great-grandchildren, Amber and Carter Beliveau, Emma and Alex Rubin, and Braxton Powell. Glynn also leaves a brother Gary Crapo; and two sisters, Arlene Buzby and Barbara Crapo. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin Crapo; a sister, Helen Tuttle; and a brother, Fayette Crapo.

A funeral procession will gather on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Windsor Locks Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Glynn's memory at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 52 S. Elm St., Windsor Locks. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 52 S. Elm St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.

I spent several enjoyable years in the television production department at the P&W Service School in Rocky Hill before it closed. Glynn could always be counted on to brighten ones day as a good and helpful friend. God speed my old friend!
