Gustaf Nilsson Obituary
He was born on Jan. 23, 1928, in Wethersfield, a son of the late Gustaf and Mattie (Moore) Nilsson. Gus lived in Windsor Locks for 39 years and lived in Brattleboro, Vt., following his retirement before moving to Enfield, where he had resided for the past seven years. He and Virginia loved wintering in Naples, Fla. Gus proudly served in the United States Army at the end of World War II. A talented mechanic, he worked in auto repair for many years, and prior to retiring worked at Geissler's Supermarket for 10 years. Gus served as a volunteer firefighter with the Windsor Locks Fire Department from 1960 to 1990. He loved the outdoors, where he spent much enjoyable time hunting and snowmobiling. Gus was an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, Gus will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Linda Pinney, and her husband, John, of Enfield; his cherished grandchildren, James Lombard, and his wife, Susan, Jennifer Kalen, and her husband, Kurt, and Kelly Alexander, and her husband, Shawn; his five great-grandchildren, James Lombard, Krista Alexander, Shawn Alexander Jr., Brooke Kalen, and Alexa Kalen; and his sister, Patricia Johnson of Broad Brook. Gus was predeceased by his brother, James Nilsson; and his sisters, Evelyn Seam and Jane Sosnicki.
A funeral service in celebration of Gus' life will be held at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. followed by burial with military honors in Grove Cemetery.
His family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Gus' memory be made to the Windsor Locks Fire Department, 4 Volunteer Drive, Windsor Locks, CT 06096; or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Dear Virginia and family, I was very sorry to read of Gus's passing this morning. It has been many years since we have been in touch but we have great memories of the "old" days with friends from the Fire Department. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
