Janet Cook Obituary

Janet E. (Fickinger) Cook, 79, of Suffield, beloved wife of Rev. Ralph M. Cook, died peacefully while hearing I Corinthians 13 read by her pastor, Bridget Fidler.

Born in Rochester, N.Y., daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Watkeys) Fickinger, she was a graduate of Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa. Janet was a talented musician and spent her married life as the supportive and dedicated wife of a Congregational minister. She had lived in Amherst, Mass., Granby, and Columbus, Ohio, moving to Suffield in 1991, where she was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational.

Besides her husband she leaves three sons, Howard M. Cook of Middletown, David W. Cook of Columbus, Ohio, and Stephen M. Cook of Suffield; two daughters, Martha Roy and her husband, Richard, of Enfield, and Laura Waddell and her husband, Scott, of West Suffield; and three grandchildren, Heather Elizabeth Waddell, Joshua M. Waddell, and Kyle A. Arvisais.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, 11 a.m., at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, High Street Suffield. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be in Granby Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The best way to honor Janet would be by living in a loving way as she did, and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Christian Children's Fund, 2821 Emerywood Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294 or Music on High c/o the First Church of Christ, Congregational, High Street, Suffield, CT 06078.

Ralph and family, I'm sorry to hear of Janet's passing. I remember her well from growing up in the church in North Granby in the 1960s. She was so welcoming and gracious offering hot chocolate and goodies after some of our youth events. And she was passionate in her singing in choir. Hope you are all finding comfort in memories of her life, lived so much for others.
