Jean Loomer Obituary

On June 15, 2013, it was with great sadness that Jean Drake Loomer left behind a full life of 87 years.

Jean was born Sept. 30, 1925, daughter of Edna Huggins Drake and Eugene Drake. She grew up and lived in Windsor. She attended a two-room schoolhouse, Hayden Station School, and graduated from John Fitch High School in 1942. Jean married Ralph Loomer after WWII and had four children. She worked at Alvin's Inc. and CE/ABB/Alstom in Windsor, where she acquired many lifetime friends. She contributed entries to Windsor Storytellers, and, with the help of her close companion, Joe Zukowski, prepared a photographical book of Windsor Center and Palisado Avenue historic sites and homes.

Jean is survived by her sister, Helen Blevins of DeBary, Fla.; her three daughters, Linda Hammontree of Alfred, Maine; Virginia Cizman and husband, Peter Cizman, of Granby; Marjorie Weismantel and her husband, Steve Weismantel, of South Windsor; and her son, Leroy Loomer, and his wife, Margaret Hesse Loomer, of Windsor. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sam Wuertz, Jeanne Hammontree Hargreaves, Andrew Hammontree, Laura and Doug Weismantel, Nancy Jean Cizman, and Holly and Alex Loomer. Surviving great-grandchildren are Acadia and Reed Paul Hargreaves.

There will be no visiting hours or funeral service.

Her body has been donated to the UConn Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any interested party make a donation in her name to the Connecticut Cat Connection, a no-kill shelter for cats, P.O. Box 954, Windsor, CT 06095.

Any expression of sympathy can be mailed to Marjorie Weismantel, 51 Riverside Drive, South Windsor, CT 06074.
