John DaSilva Obituary

John M. DaSilva Sr., 94, of 3 Sun St., Enfield, husband of Marie (Cervasio) DaSilva, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born in White Plains, N.Y., a son of the late Alexander and Maria (Maderno) DaSilva, he had been a resident of the Enfield community and a faithful communicant of Holy Family Church since 1957. John had been employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years, retiring in 1976 as a postal inspector. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Rhineland and Central Europe. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed working around his home in leisure time, but most of all he enjoyed his family and was a true example of a family man.

In addition to Marie, his beloved wife of 64 years, he is survived by his four children, John M. DaSilva Jr., MD, and his wife, Estela, of Windsor, Patricia DaSilva of Ellington, Robert DaSilva, DMD, and his wife, Laura, of Somers, and Paul DaSilva, and his wife, Kate, of Enfield; eight grandchildren, Gisela, Michael, Brian, Cassie, Alyse, and Jennifer DaSilva, John E. DaSilva, MD, and his wife, Lindsay Hollander, MD, and Brenna DaSilva Grimson, and her husband, Dave. John also leaves his sister-in-law, Connie Cervasio of Enfield; a niece, Yvonne DaSilva Negrin; and two nephews, Michael and Charles DaSilva. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Martha DaSilva, and their son, Joseph.

Relatives and friends may gather at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 9 a.m. for a funeral procession to Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, where a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery, Enfield.

John's family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, his family has suggested that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942; the Hole In The Wall Gang Fund, 555 Long Warf Drive, New Haven, CT 06511; or the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Joseph's Residence, 1365 Enfield St., Enfield, CT 06082.

On behalf of President/Chief Administrator David Eustis and the entire Northwest Catholic High School community, I offer my deepest sympathy on the passing of John M. DaSilva.

Because his grandchildren, Gisela DaSilva '00 and John E. DaSilva, MD '02, are cherished members of our school family, we feel that their grandfather was, too, and we mourn his death along with all those who love him.

Please know that we are holding all of John's family very close to our hearts this week, and that we will include John on the prayer list at our first school-wide Mass in September. We are very sorry for your loss.
