John William "Jack" Mahon Sr.

John William "Jack" Mahon Sr., 75, of Rocky Hill and Middletown (formerly of Hartford and Ellington), passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center on Nov. 25, 2013.

John was born and grew up in Valley Stream, N.Y. John served in the Coast Guard Reserve for a number of years. He graduated from Bryant College in 1958 with a business degree. John worked in many sales jobs, including Mattel, Milton Bradley, Travelers, and Bill Savitt's Jewelers. Volunteer activities included Knights of Columbus, Middletown Senior Center, Hartford Hospital, and numerous area churches.

John was predeceased by his cherished friend and traveling companion of over 25 years, Alan Cobham; his parents, James and Alice (Gaffney); and sister, Alice. John leaves his sons, John (wife Sue) of Ellington, Joseph (wife Jollene) of West Dover, Vt.; and daughters, Patty (husband Andy Daigle) of East Granby and Nancy Wilcock (husband Barry) of Rocky Hill. He leaves his grandchildren, Brian (girlfriend Chelsie) and Meghan Wilcock, Julia and Mary Daigle, Alice and William Mahon, James and Jillian Mahon. John also leaves his ex-wife, Patricia Mahon of Vernon, and brother James Mahon Jr. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be at noon Dec. 7, 2013, at Holy Family Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford. Friends may gather with the family at a luncheon following the Mass. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ron Foley Foundation (to fight pancreatic cancer) or Alzheimer's Association.
