Joseph Carrier Obituary

Joseph Louis "Louie" Carrier, age 79 of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born July 6, 1934, in Rumford, Maine, he was the son of the late Leon Carrier and Catherine (Thibedeau). Louie was a resident of Windsor Locks for 50 years and on Oct. 4, 1979, he was united in marriage to his beloved bride, Betty (Davis) Mayette. Louie proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 36. Louie was a communicant of St. Mary Church and was an active member in the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council 26. An avid gambler and sports enthusiast, Louie loved going to the casino, playing cards with Betty at the Elks Club on Sundays, playing horseshoes, bowling, hunting, and he especially enjoyed his weekly golf game. Louie will also be remembered for his love of cribbage and always reminding you that he was a better player.

Left with memories of Louie are his wife of 34 years, Betty; his children, Larry Carrier, and his wife, Jeanette, of Agawam, Mass., Theresa Hanford, and her husband, Robert, of Cypress, Texas, Sheri Carrier of East Hampton, Mass., Michael Carrier, and his wife, Cheryl, of Anchorage, Ala., Norman Mayette Sr., and his wife, Karen, of Somers, Wilfred Mayette, and his wife, Joan, of Enfield, and Ronald Mayette of Vernon; his two sisters, Betty Pelletier, and her husband, Alden, of Hartford, and Pauline Seymour, and her husband, Harvey "Chick" of Bolton; his grandchildren, Deana, Timmy, Matt, Darci, Alex, Nica, Norman Jr., Ashley, Merrick, Caleb; and his five great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering for Louie will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., at 11:30 a.m. with military honors to follow.

Memorial remembrances may be made in Louie's name to the Masonic Hospice Care, c/o The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
