Katherine Francis Obituary

Katherine H. Francis, 98, of South Windsor, wife of the late Alexander S. Francis and matriarch of the Francis/ Hutnak families, passed away, Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in East Douglas, Mass., daughter of the late John and Katherine (Gallik) Hutnak, she lived in Nasonville, R.I., and Thompson, moving to South Windsor eight years ago where she treasured her years at Berry Patch. Hardworking, she was employed by the Levy Textile Mills, Nasonville, R.I., and retired as a nurses aide at Zambarano Hospital, Pascoag, R.I. Katherine was an independent, generous, and honest woman who grew up during difficult times and learned how important her family was. She was artistic, loved gardening, and was an avid NASCAR fan. She enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Florida, California, and Hawaii.

She leaves her daughters, Evelyn (Charles) Lyons of South Windsor and Loretta Weatherwax of Dudley, Mass.; brothers, Fred (Arlene) Hutnak of Uxbridge, Mass., and Vincent (Uta) Hutnak of Pullman, Ore.; two sisters, Mary Cardillo of Johnston, R.I., and Helen (John) Ammerman of Nasonville, R.I.; grandchildren, Kathleen Mucha of East Hartford, Susan Davis (Neil) of North Kingston, R.I., Carolyn Stone of Shrewsbury, Mass., Karen Lyons, Diane (Dennis) Hill of Millbury, Mass., Shawn McGuill of Ellington; and Lisa Weatherwax of Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren, Alexis Stolarun, Zachary Stone, and Corey Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, John and Joseph Hutnak, Joseph Gallik, and grandson-in-law, Mark Mucha.

Her family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Fox Hill for their exceptional care.

Katherine's family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa Cemetery, Burrillville, Nasonville, R.I.

Contributions may be made to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Suite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814; or a charity of the donor's choice.

To the family of Katerine Francis. It was my pleasure to have been part of your mother/grandmother's life. She made me smile when I entered her room each time I was working. The family was so loving and supportive of Katherine it moved me to see such love and care for someone. Words cannot express my sadness for your loss especially so close to the holidays. I do know she'll be with you all in spirit. I have many nice memories of talking to Katherine, Evelyn and Loretta. You will not be forgotten. Thank you for allowing me to express my own sadness after the passing of "Gram" with your hugs and kind words.
