Margaret L. "Peg" Mulak

Margaret L. "Peg" Mulak, 94, of Somers, widow of the late Stanley Mulak (2001) her true love since first grade, entered into eternal peace Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at the Jewish Nursing Home of Western Massachusetts in Longmeadow, Mass.

Born June 9, 1919, in Springfield, Peg was the daughter of the late Wallace and Mary (Gaudette) Landry. She had resided in the Somers community for most of her life and was a lifelong member of All Saints Church. She was a graduate of the University of Connecticut earning a Bachelor of Arts and also earned a degree in library science from the city of Springfield Library System. Supporting her alma mater on the sports front, she was an avid UConn women's basketball fan. Philanthropic and civic minded, she was always willing to donate her time to the community. Peg had belonged to the Somers Visiting Nurse Association, the Somers Women's Club, the Somers Library Board, the Somers Historical Society, the Somers Seniors Club, the Somers Girl Scouts, in which she earned her 20-year pin. She was a friend of the Somers Public Library, and was also a substitute teacher for the Somers Public Schools. Politically active, Peg was a supporter of the Somers Republican Party. She was a Four Town Fair volunteer for the exhibit pavilion for many years and she also was a volunteer for several years at Johnson Memorial Hospital and later joined the board in 1999 serving until 2007 at which time she was elevated to the honorary trustee emeritus position. Peg and Stanley were proud to support numerous expansion and refurbishment efforts within the entire JMMC network.

Peg is survived by two daughters, Christine Heller, and her husband, Brian, of Providence, R.I., Mary Ellen McKiernan of Dublin, Ohio, and Mark Mulak, and his wife, Christine, of Somers; three grandchildren, Justin McKiernan, Edward Mulak, and Robert Mulak.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers. Family and friends will gather 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Somers Funeral Home for a procession to All Saints Church in Somersville, for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal will be private.
