Mary Giordano

Mary (Regan) Giordano, 68, of South Windsor, beloved and devoted wife to Jack Giordano, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital.

The beautiful but challenging life journey of Mary Regan Giordano has not ended but merely changed. Born on Sept. 10, 1944, in New Haven, daughter of the late William and Mary Margaret (Meagher) Regan, she had lived in South Windsor for the past 39 years. Before retiring, she was employed as a paraprofessional for the public school system in South Windsor. Mary was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor. Ten years spent as a Sister of Mercy formed Mary into a woman of mercy always caring for those in need. Mary was full of gratitude to her husband, Jack, who remained by her bedside during many hospitalizations. Her children were incredibly loved by their mother who honored the uniqueness of each one of them. Mary's grandchildren brought her incredible joy and time spent with them was her favorite occupation. Spending time at the sea, both in Misquamicut, R.I., at the family cottage and Rockport, Mass., restored and enlivened her spirit. She was a faithful friend to many and always offered an open heart and a listening ear. Many were recipients of her poetic letters and cards, which showed her to be an outstanding wordsmith. Mary cherished her Irish roots and will be remembered by all who knew and loved her for twinkling eyes and radiant smile.

In addition to her husband, Jack, she leaves three children, David Giordano, and his wife, Tressa, of Ellington, Jonathan Giordano of East Hartford and Cathleen Childree, and her husband, Kevin, of Manchester; a sister, Margaret Regan, and her husband, Larry, of Swanzey, N.H.; and three grandchildren, Riley and Emersyn Giordano and Olivia Childree.

Family and friends may gather Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at 9:15 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, South Windsor.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
