Raymond Desroches Obituary
Born Oct. 18, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Lucien and Cecile (Nantel) Desroches. Raymond was a resident of Enfield since 1966. On June 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to his bride of 53 years, Claire Paris, before she preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2009. Raymond proudly served his country as an active member of the U.S. Air Force for seven years, serving in World War II and during the Korean Conflict, and was employed with the Reserves for 27 years as a flight engineer. Raymond was a communicant of Holy Family Church and participated in assisting with bingo nights, being the most popular man in attendance for he passed out the prizes. Raymond was also involved with the annual parish fair. Raymond was a history buff and especially enjoyed collecting stamps.
Raymond will be greatly missed by his daughter, Denise Desroches of Enfield; his two sons, Daniel Desroches and his wife, Judith, of Enfield and David Desroches of Seattle, Wash.; his grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, and Mia-Le Desroches; his brother, Richard Desroches of Staten Island; and his sister, Yvonne Godsil of Waterbury. Besides his beloved wife, Claire, and his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Desroches.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, beginning with a prayer service at 10 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road. Raymond's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery.
A visitation for Raymond will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Raymond's name to Masonicare Hospice Care, c/o Masonicare Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492; or to Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield, CT 06082 would be appreciated by the family.
