Regina Ellis Obituary

Regina "Reggie" R. Ellis, 88, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, peacefully in her sleep at Parkway Pavilion Nursing Home in Enfield, of natural causes.

Reggie was born June 11, 1925, in Hatfield, Mass., and was the daughter of Hypolite and Stefania Gronski Matusiewicz. For many years she lived in Hartford, first at 95 and 87 Nelton Court and then at 29 Bulkeley Ave.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia, and her husband, Subastian Fazzina, of Rocky Hill; her son, Robert J. Ellis Sr., and his wife, Patricia, of Enfield; a daughter, Diane, and her husband, Richard Mascaro, of Enfield; her daughter, Debra Ross of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and her daughter-in-law, Leigh Anne Thomas of Farmington, Utah. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Lt. Randy Thomas, Rebecca Thomas Presler, Jennifer Fazzina Swerdlick, Janine Fazzina Boudo, Robert Ellis II, Christopher Ellis, Richard, Anthony, and Ryan Mascaro, and Aaron and Brandon Ross, and her eight soon to be nine great-grandchildren. She leaves her brother, Steve Matusiewicz of Hatfield; and a sister, Janet Krok of Northampton, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Reggie was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Ellis; and son, Ronald John Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a sister, Helen MacSuga; a sister, Phyllis Galinski; and a sister, Val Sabo.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Parkway Pavilion Nursing Home for their wonderful and compassionate care of our mother especially to her nurse, Vivian, who my mom affectionately call Darling and Dr. Darshan Shah. Also, many thanks to all friends and family who showed their loving concern while she spent her last years in the nursing home. We thank our sister, Diane Mascaro, for the many days she visited Mom helping to feed her, keeping her company, or bringing her special food and drink, and Clair her niece who drove many miles for her visits.

Reggie says thank you to all who helped her create some happiness while she was on this earth and she wishes that your life is filled with good health, enough wealth, and lots of happiness and friends.

There are no calling hours but a memorial service celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield. Bring a good memory of Reggie and share it with family and friends. Burial will be private.

I was saddend to hear of the passing of Mrs. Ellis (Reggie). I remember her as being tough but caring and loving to her family. Our families go way back, she was always nice to me. I have many memories of those times. It is hard when you loose a parent, her spirit will always be with you. I know she is proud of all of you. Our condolences.

I have thousands of memories as a child of my "Gram". I have to believe that my own mom gave me wonderful fun childhood memories because she learned it from an amazing source! I'm proud to say that Regina's spirit lives on still ....since my mom is creating the same memories with my children and I have learned to do the same -- We can only remember those past times of parties and "get togethers" and smile at her dancing at weddings and when she was in the mood to get that costume on and play Mrs. Claus --- The last time I saw my gram, she was happy -- Diane was taking care of her and keeping her happy and my mom was sitting right beside them while we watched Janine at her baby shower -- Regina's journey with me ended just as it had begun --- memorable

Dear Reggie,
I enjoyed viewing your photographs and your inspiring words. I only met you on June 8 at Janine's baby shower. I was sitting at your table. When I told you that your daughter was bringing some delicious Italian cookies hoem for you, you flashed a BIG smile. I hope you got to eat those cookies!...Carol Iczkowski

Reggie says:
"I wish for you..."

Comfort on difficult days,
Smiles when sadness intrudes,
Rainbows to follow the clouds,
Laughter to kiss your lips,

Sunsets to warm your heart,
Gentle hugs when spirits sag,
Friendships to brighten your being,
Beauty for your eyes to see,

Confidence for when you doubt,
Faith so that you can believe,
Courage to know yourself,
Patience to accept the truth,
And love to complete your life.

I was never really close to Reggie and I am sorry for that. She seemed sad a lot and I am happy to know she was in good spirits the last few years of her life, and to share that with her children and grandchildren. I know she will be missed by all of them!

June 18, 2013

I would rather have one little rose
From the garden of a friend,

Than to have the choicest flowers

When my stay on earth must end.

I would rather have one pleasant word

In Kindness said to me,

Than flattery when the heart is still

And life has ceased to be.

I would rather have a loving smile

From friends I know are true,

Than tears shed round my casket

When this world I've bid adieu.

Bring me all your flowers today

Whether pink, or white, or red;

I'd rather have one blossom now

Than a truckload when I'm dead!
