Roger Clayton Obituary

Roger Albert Clayton, of Madison, N.H., 77, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at his home with his family be his side.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 58½ years, Olive (Ward) Clayton; a son, Glen Albert Clayton, and grandchildren Aaron Michael, Brianna Beth, and Samuel Roger; and a daughter, Christine Ann (Clayton) Gatten and grandson Jacob Thomas Gatten. Roger was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Lancaster, and son-in-law, Jerry Gatten.

Roger was born in Memorial Hospital, North Conway, N.H. on Feb. 13, 1936, to Albert and Annie Clayton of Madison. He graduated from Kennett High School in 1954 and Portsmouth technical school in 1956. The family moved to Enfield in 1964, and Roger worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 32 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years with the Shaker Pines Fire Department in Enfield, serving as deputy chief for several years. Upon his retirement he returned to Madison, where he served the community as a volunteer firefighter and member of the Madison Historical Society. Roger was a volunteer firefighter for over 50 years, a service he dearly loved (riding his tricycle to his first fire at age 3).

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Madison Baptist Church, pastor Sean Dunker-Bendigo officiating. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Madison Baptist Church, The Madison Volunteer Fire Department, or the Madison Historical Society (Madison, NH 03849).
