Ronald Hardy Obituary

Ronald "Ron" G. Hardy, 69, of Somers and Hobe Sound, Fla., devoted and beloved husband of Susanne (Gabunas) Hardy for 24 years, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Springfield, Mass., on May 12, 1944, a son of the late Raymond and Bernice (Rhodes) Hardy. Ron was a graduate of Somers High School, Class of 1962, and retired from the State of Connecticut where he worked in the Department of Correction for 23 years and in the Judicial Department for 15 years. Golf was Ron's passion, and he and Susanne spent countless hours playing at Elmcrest Country Club, where many friendships were formed. Ron fulfilled his longtime dream to own property in Florida, assuring him that golf would be on the agenda 12 months of the year. He also enjoyed softball and racquetball and any gathering that involved his family and many good friends. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his infectious laugh, his warm hugs and his caring heart.

In addition to Susanne, Ron is survived by his children; Jeffrey Hardy and his wife, Donna, of Branford, Tara Joyce and her husband, Dennis, of Rochester, N.Y., Michael Devlin Jr. of Springfield, Mass., and Jennifer Worthington of Stafford; his 12 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy; his brother, Doug Hardy and his wife, Deborah, of Somers; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his brother, Raymond.

A service celebrating Ron's life will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers.

Burial will be private.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home during visitation on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Ron's family requests that those attending his services dress in golf or casual attire.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department, 400 Main St., Somers, CT 06071.
