Shirley Arena Obituary

Shirley J. Arena, 75, of Windsor Locks, beloved wife for 58 years of Thomas Arena Sr., entered into eternal rest surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Nov. 15, 1938, in Enfield, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Rosalie (Miner) King. Shirley raised her family in Enfield and resided in Windsor Locks for the past 21 years. She was employed for more than 30 years at Cooper Crouse-Hinds before her retirement. Shirley's family was everything to her and time spent with them was what she cherished the most. Hugs from her grandchildren made her smile, and her unique sense of humor and wit sparked their imagination. Shirley found great joy in crocheting gifts and passing them on to others. She loved baking for her family, as well as taking long car rides with her husband. She also enjoyed her online socializing with family and friends.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Thomas; her five children, Kim Zaine and her husband, Frank, of Enfield, Thomas Arena Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Ellington, Penny Moler of Enfield, Michael Arena and Pamela Fowler of Enfield and Wendy Lee and Michael Jodoin of Ludlow, Mass.; her 12 grandchildren; John, Rebecca, Melissa, Adam, Stacey, Jennifer, Amanda, Alex, Shane, Brenton, Jennifer and Michael; and eight great-grandchildren; her extended family, John Moler and Charmaine Arena; her brother James King and his wife, Ann, of Florida; her two sisters, Viola Landry of Enfield and Mary Schultz of Stafford; a brother-in-law, Frank Arena and his wife Carol; and a beloved sister-in-law, Bonnie Arena; and several loving nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., to remember and share memories of Shirley's life on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 2 until 4 p.m. A funeral service for Shirley will immediately follow at the funeral home at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations to be used for a memorial bench in Shirley's name at the Winhall Brook Campground for future generations to enjoy.

A memorial fund has been established in Shirley's name at 360 Federal Credit Union, 191 Ella Grasso Turnpike, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
