Therese Pontillo Obituary

Therese Ann (Martin) Pontillo, 82, of South Windsor, formerly of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

She was the loving and devoted wife of the late John F. Pontillo for 54 years. The daughter of the late Margaret (McGloin) and Luke Martin, Therese was born on Feb. 11, 1931, at St. Francis Hospital. She was raised in Hartford and attended local schools, graduating from Hartford Public High School. She worked at The Travelers Insurance Co. for several years before leaving to raise her family. She later returned to the work force, retiring from the State of Connecticut's secretary of state office. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Therese enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, card games, and playing mah-jongg, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

A loving and caring mother, grandmother, and sister, she leaves three daughters and sons-in-law; Linda and Stanley McFarland of Manchester, Patricia and Michael Moore of West Hartford, and Karen and Mark Viklinetz of South Windsor; a son, Robert Pontillo of South Windsor; and two grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Viklinetz of South Windsor. She is also survived by her twin sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Herbert "Bud" Regan of East Hartford; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Pontillo of West Hartford and Richard Pontillo of Avon; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at 9 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Therese was a cancer survivor, and memorial donations in her name may be made to: St. Francis Cancer Center, 114 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06104.
