William Upjohn Obituary

Cpl. William Travis Upjohn, USMC, 22, of Manchester, beloved son of Thomas and Peggy (Yeakley) Upjohn of Manchester, accepted his permanent transfer to heaven Saturday, July 27, 2013.

Born May 3, 1991, Travis was a lifelong resident of Manchester and a 2009 graduate of Howell Cheney Technical High School. Travis enlisted in the Marines after high school and proudly served as a heavy equipment operator with the 9th Engineer Support Battalion, including a tour in Afghanistan. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Known for his quiet nature, Travis personified reliability, morals, integrity, an infectious work ethic, and love for his family, his country, and the Marines. He did what was right because it was right. He will be missed like crazy by all.

In addition to his parents, Travis is survived by his sisters, Megan Upjohn of Manchester, and Melanie Jones of Texas. He also leaves his paternal grandparents, Mary Elizabeth Stevens of Cochituate, Mass., and William and May Upjohn of Portland; his maternal grandparents, Billie Jo Knight of Manchester and Milton and Pauline Yeakley of Ridgecrest, Calif.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his extended Marine family.

His family will receive friends for calling hours on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at the Presbyterian Church of Coventry, 55 Trowbridge Road, Coventry. Burial will follow in Hillstown Cemetery, Manchester, with full military honors.

A special thanks to the United States Marine Corps and the many Marines who assisted the family and enabled Travis' dreams to come true.

Peggy and Tom, I am so sad to learn of Travis' death. I never got tired of that devilish smile he would give me when he entered class and how he was so often the only one who got my sense of humor. Mrs. Ranzoni, Mrs. Johnson and I had so much fun laughing with him and teaching him for all those years. The military certainly did get a young man with integrity and a work ethic very few had, especially in middle school. My deepest of sympathies are sent to you and I will be keeping Travis and your family in my prayers and ask God to ease your pain.
Fondly, Miss B/Mrs. M

I remember the times I would tease you for joining the Marines, because that's what sailors do. But I was proud that a member of my family had what it took. Semper Fi, nephew. Fair winds and following seas.
